Several homes in six villages near Chromex Mine outside Burgersfort in Limpopo have been severely damaged following mine blasting activities three days ago. The houses have broken windows and cracks.

The Minerals Resources Department and management of the responsible mine have launched a joint investigation into the severity of the blasts.

Residents are calling for swift repairs.

"What happened at the mine led to serious malicious damage to our homes and we are still trying to determine how we can fix our homes. The mine needs to take accountability after the blast damaged our homes. All the windows around my house have been damaged there is nothing. It is winter and we have to sleep with no windows as they have all completely fallen. We are quite disturbed by how the mine conducts these operations as we live right next to the mine," says a resident.

Meanwhile, Mine Manager Thulare Ntwampe says the blasts were part of a planned mining operation.
