leipzig reject newcastle uniteds 80m bid for sesko

Newcastle United's offer for Benjamin Sesko has been rejected by Bundesliga outfit, RB Leipzig, Softfootball reports.

The 22-year-old has been a subject of speculation throughout the summer as the tussle between the Magpies and Red Devils grows, fans are curious as to where the Slovenia international will end up playing his football for next season.

According to football transfer expert, David Ornstein via his official X handle , the Magpies offer for Sesko is deemed as not enough by the Bundesliga club as they would want more for the player rated as the next best thing in football.

He explained:

Sesko has a good relationship with Manchester United's director of requirement Christopher Vivell as they both worked with Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

Vivell, now Manchester Uniteds head of recruitment, played a key role in signing Sesko for both clubs. Their past collaboration makes Vivell a significant figure in Manchester Uniteds pursuit of Sesko .

But for Newcastle United they are anticipating the departure of Alexander Isak to Liverpool after turning down the first bid of 120m as they are insisting on 150m for the Swedish striker who scored 23 goals in the premier league last season. Leipzig rejecting the Magpies after putting in a huge offer only means that there will be a bidding war for the striker this summer.

Interestingly, Sesko scored 14 goals and 2 assits during the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign and netted 21 times for Leipzig in all competition last season. So, he is not the finished article but his qualities to link-up play and score fantastic goals makes him one of Europe's hottest commodities.

Sesko was omitted from the Leipzig squad that lost 2-1 to Serie A side, Atalanta in a pre-season friendly earlier today.
