The Madadeni Regional Court in KwaZulu-Natal sentenced a 57-year-old drug dealer to 15 years in prison. Jerome Kunene was arrested in 2023 for being in possession of drugs valued at R112 000.
The NPA has welcomed the sentence, stating that drug abuse and related crimes are rife in communities.
Regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara explains, "In total, police found 1 851 full Mandrax tablets, 38 half Mandrax tablets and approximately R1 300 in cash. The drugs had an estimated street value of R112 000. Kunene was also declared unfit to possess a firearm."
