Two men, aged 33 and 35, were arrested by Kirstenhof Crime Prevention Unit CPU officers on Tuesday, 19 August, and a prohibited firearm was recovered, Constantiaberg Bulletin reports.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Deidre Solomon, officers received urgent information about two men leaving the Steenvilla complex with a firearm. The suspects were spotted along Military Road near the railway line and tried to flee into nearby bushland when approached.

'A foot chase ensued, during which one suspect fell while fleeing and the other was subdued by officers. A search revealed a 9mm calibre pistol, partially rusted and without a visible serial number, along with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition. The firearm will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in other crimes,' Solomon told .
