Kenya is advancing plans to establish a Centre of African Excellence for Applied Artificial Intelligence, aimed at strengthening research, education, and innovation in AI across the continent. The initiative aligns with the countrys National AI Strategy 20252030 and seeks to position Kenya as a hub for ethical, locally relevant AI solutions.
Preliminary consultations took place in Nairobi with a high-level delegation from Germanys Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, alongside officials from the German Embassy and leadership from the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Kenya-AIST. Discussions focused on collaboration frameworks, responsible AI governance, talent development, and building robust data ecosystems.
The proposed Centre is expected to enhance AI capacity in Kenya and Africa, supporting innovation-driven economic growth and inclusive technological development. Germanys commitment to research cooperation underscores the international support backing this transformative initiative.
