Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has resigned from the New Nigeria People's Party NNPP, along with 21 Kano State House of Assembly members, eight federal lawmakers, and 44 local government chairmen in the state.

Spokesperson Sunusi Tofa released the statement, noting that Yusuf informed the Diso-Chiranchi Ward NNPP chairman in Gwale LGA of his resignation, effective Friday, January 23, 2026.

In his letter, Yusuf thanked the NNPP for providing a platform since 2022 and for leadership support. He attributed his departure to ongoing leadership disagreements and legal battles within the party, which he says have weakened cohesion and increased divisions at both state and national levels.
