Japanese golfer Yosuke Asaji secured a historic victory at the Singapore Open, becoming the first player from his country to win the event since 1976.

Asaji defeated South Korea's Wang Jeung-hun in a playoff at the Singapore Island Country Club after both finished regulation play tied at 19-under par.

The 32-year-old clinched the title with a six-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole, following Wangs error of hitting his second shot into the water, resulting in a bogey.
