Over 5000 homeless individuals have been assisted through the City of Cape Town's Rough Sleeper Strategy, which offers vital support including access to shelter, substance abuse rehabilitation, identity documentation and meals.
According to EWN , the initiative forms part of the City's winter response and involves collaboration with eleven shelters across the metro, along with four municipal safe spaces designed to offer dignified, structured support.
Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham, said the programme focuses on helping individuals rebuild their lives and reconnect with their families.
The city safe space model includes dignified shelter and ablution facilities, two nutritious meals daily, onsite social work services, personal development planning and assistance with ID documents and social grants, said Higham.
According to the City, reuniting families and reintegrating people into communities remains central to the strategy.
