A cyber hacking group is allegedly threatening to release stolen customer data from dozens of global firms, including Qantas, unless a ransom is paid.
In June, the airline reported a cyber incident at one of its contact centres which saw nearly six million customers data compromised. An initial review found that customer names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and frequent flyer numbers were compromised.
Qantas had reported that there was no evidence that the data was released. However, the hacker collective Scattered Lapsus Hunters has since claimed responsibility and demanded a ransom payment, according to ABC News .
