Left-arm spinner and stand in South African captain, Keshav Maharaj, has been ruled out of the second test against Zimbabwe.

Maharaj picked up a groin strain while batting on day three of the first test in Bulawayo but was still fit enough to send off 24 overs in Zimbabwes second innings.

He will return home for further assessment to determine the extent of the injury.

Wiaan Mulder will replace Maharaj as stand-in captain in the absence of Temba Bavuma who picked up a hamstring strain in the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia at Lords last month.

Senuran Muthusamy has been named as Maharajs replacement for the second test starting in Bulawayo on Sunday.
