Spanish football team Atletico Madrid announced on Tuesday that they have reached an agreement with Brazilian team Botafogo to acquire Thiago Almada, a 2022 World Cup champion.

The 24-year-old Argentinian was on loan at Lyon during the latter half of the previous season, where he netted two goals and provided five assists across 20 matches in all competitions for the French side.
Almada has earned ten caps for Argentina and was a member of the squad that triumphed in the World Cup held in Qatar. He also represented his country during the 2024 Paris Olympics .
The right-footed attacking midfielder developed his skills at local club Velez Sarsfield, making his professional debut in 2018 at the age of 17. He transferred to the MLS team Atlanta in 2022, where he was named the leagues Rookie of the Year following his inaugural season.
