Cape Town's world-famous Minstrel Parade could look very different in 2026, with organisers proposing a fresh route that would shift the spectacle to Green Point, although the final decision is still awaiting approval.
The Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association KKKA has submitted an application to the City of Cape Town's Events Permit Office to reroute the Tweede Nuwe Jaar Parade on Monday, 5 January 2026. While preparations are progressing, organisers admit that outstanding logistical and technical hurdles must still be resolved before the plan is confirmed, as per TimeOut .
The KKKA has pointed to recent technical challenges within event processes as a cause of delays, stressing that these systems are being refined to ensure fairness, accessibility and protection against misuse. Organisers say this work should be completed within days and have asked the public and participants for patience.
