African National Congress President Cyril Ramaphosa says long-term government interventions are contributing to a gradual reduction in poverty levels in South Africa.

Speaking at the partys birthday Gala Dinner in the North West, Ramaphosa cited the latest Statistics South Africa Poverty Trends report, which shows a marked decline in poverty since 2006.

The decline in poverty levels over the last decade, even amongst the low economic growth and rising unemployment, has largely been due to the pro-poor policies of the anc government. Remembering that we spend 61 percent of our budget, 2 trillion rand budget, 61 percent goes to social projects, social welfare.
