A legal challenge has been filed against Gatwick Airports plans to add a second runway after the expansion was approved in September.
Campaign group Communities Against Gatwick Noise Emissions CAGNE has lodged a judicial review, claiming the climate impact of the runway expansion was not properly assessed and that development consent should not have been granted.
The expansion would see the airports current back-up runway repurposed to operate alongside the main runway, enabling more than 100 000 additional flights per year by the late 2030s.
