As fuel price adjustments take effect on Wednesday, 4 June 2025, South African motorists will experience a slight relief at the pumps, albeit tempered by a recent hike in taxes.
The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has confirmed that the June adjustments will see a reduction in the price of petrol and diesel, influenced by the volatile oil prices and the appreciating rand against the US dollar, as reported by BusinessTech .
For June, the price of Petrol 93 and Petrol 95 will each decrease by 5 cents per litre, while the price of diesel will witness a cut of 37 cents per litre across both 0.05 and 0.005 wholesale grades. Additionally, illuminating paraffin will decrease by 56 cents per litre, and LPGAS will see a significant decrease of 89 cents per kg.
A detailed breakdown of the adjustments is highlighted in the table below:
- Petrol 93: decrease of 5 cents per litre
- Petrol 95: decrease of 5 cents per litre
- Diesel 0.05 wholesale: decrease of 37 cents per litre
- Diesel 0.005 wholesale: decrease of 37 cents per litre
- Illuminating Paraffin wholesale: decrease of 56 cents per litre
- LPGAS: decrease of 89 cents per kg
Despite the overall decrease, a recent increase in the general fuel levy announced by the Minister of Finance during the Budget Speech on 21 May 2025 has tempered these cuts.
