The National Convenor of Mayibuye National Consultation Process, Floyd Shivambu, says uMkhonto weSizwe MK Party cannot lead a liberation project.
Shivambu, who was MK Party Secretary-General until his removal in early June, adds that this is something he would tell the partys leader Jacob Zuma when they meet.
He made the comments at a media briefing where he unveiled members of his consultation team on Friday 27 June.
Floyd Shivambu on why MK Party members are unhappyShivambu revealed that Zuma had asked for a meeting with him through his office. However, he couldnt travel to Zumas residence in KwaZulu-Natal because he had meetings in Gauteng.
I indicated that when we finish this process, I will not have a problem to go and apprise President Zuma that we are in a process of consultation which might culminate in the formation of a political party or a movement, he explained.
He emphasised that the consultations are not secretive but open.
We will tell him the reasons why we think that the MK Party, in its current configuration, cant be a trusted weapon in the hands of the people of South Africa, Shivambu said.
We can give more confidential information as to why an organisation, in its current configuration, cant lead a liberation project.
According to Shivambu, the MK Partys internal dynamics inhibit its ability to be a fighting instrument. He claimed that it lacks internal discipline, stability, transparency and accountability.
There cant be a liberation project that is led by a family. There cant be a democratic liberation project that is not a unitary formation with democratic centralism , he added.
