Five learners and a parent have been arrested after they allegedly disrupted matric preparatory exams at Tsakane Secondary School in Ekurhuleni this morning. The reasons for the disruptions are not clear at this stage. However, the Gauteng Education Department believes this will serve as a deterrent to parents and learners who might be tempted to disrupt schooling and contravene the Basic Education Laws Amendment Act.

"These children had been harassing educators and some learners at the school to such an extent that some learners had to get protection orders, and the principal has been in and out of the police station, opening cases," says the departments spokesperson, Steve Mabona.

"We are quite happy that today the five learners that have been identified, police have processed them," he added.
