In a heart-stopping turn of events in Mitchells Plain, a dedicated firefighters quick action averted disaster, saving the life of a five-month-old infant, Cape town Etc reports.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday morning last week as Firefighter Michael Samuels was on duty in the Watch Room at the local fire station.
The emergency call came through from a resident, alerting Firefighter Samuels to a baby in distress at a nearby home. Without a moment to lose, Samuels sprang into action, demonstrating not only his bravery but also his extensive training by rushing to provide aid.
Upon arrival, Cachet Scala, the babys mother, was in a state of panic as she carried her son, Isaiah, into the fire station. Understanding the urgency of the situation, Firefighter Samuels immediately assessed the infants condition.
Recognising a blockage in Isaiah's airway, he skilfully worked to clear it. His quick-thinking actions resulted in the immediate relief the baby needed, allowing him to breathe once again.
