Community and SAPS unite to combat crime through targeted searches. On Friday 1 August 2025, the South African Police Service launched Operation Basadi at the Kraaifontein station, marking a landmark female-led initiative to bolster safety across the precinct, Cape town Etc reports.
According to a SAPS report, Brigadier Zukiswa Matumbu opened the operation with a parade and a prayer led by the Spiritual Crime Prevention team, before briefing all participants on the day's objectives.
The first phase saw operational officers join ten Community in Blue volunteers at a high school on Old Paarl Road in Bloekombos. As learners entered the grounds, officers searched 887 bags and 21 vehicles, resulting in the arrest of a 45-year-old woman for drunk driving.
In a separate vehicle search, members uncovered a concealed Norinco 7.62 calibre firearm and eight rounds in the spare wheel of a silver Kia Sportage.
While the school search continued, teams established a vehicle checkpoint nearby, inspecting 47 vehicles. At the roadblock on Frans Conradie Boulevard, law enforcement colleagues tested 1 300 vehicles and searched 222, issuing R22 500 in fines for offences ranging from unlicensed driving to unregistered vehicles.
