The family of poet and author Dr Diana Ferrus has formally requested that government grant her a Special Official Funeral, Category One.
In a submission to the Office of the President and other officials, the family says Ferruss contribution to South Africas cultural and historical heritage exceeds the criteria for a Category Two funeral and warrants the highest national recognition.
Ferrus, who passed away last week at the age of 72, is widely known for her poem, Ive Come to Take You Home, which played a key role in the repatriation of the remains of Sara Baartman from France to South Africa.
