The East London Regional Court sitting in Mdantsane is expected to hear closing arguments in the Enyobeni inquest investigating the death of the 21 young people who died at a tavern in June 2022.
The inquest, which started in 2023, concluded listening to the evidence in August this year, having listened to testimonies of close to thirty witnesses, including liquor board officials, medical experts, investigating officers, as well as the tavern owners.
Sidima Mfeku says,The court is expected to hear the closing arguments of the state, the legal representative of the families and that of the tavern bouncer, Thembisa Diko, who is alleged to have discharged a spray gun on the night in question. The inquest aims to establish if there is any person who can be criminally responsible for the death of those 21 teenagers at Enyobeni tavern in June 2022.
