Edo Launches Measles-Rubella Vaccination Drive for 2.2 million Children

Edo State is set to vaccinate 2.2 million children aged 9 months to 14 years against Measles-Rubella as part of the Nigeria Integrated Mass Vaccination Campaign.

The vaccination exercise, which starts January 20, 2026, aims to achieve over 95 coverage and reduce child mortality rates.

The Measles-Rubella vaccine is safe and effective for all children aged 9 months to 14 years, said Dr. Eseigbe Efeomon, Director of Disease Control and Immunization, Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.

He said the vaccine is free and available at government health facilities.

The campaign targets 102.5 million children nationwide and aims to eliminate Measles and Rubella, which can cause congenital blindness, deafness, and heart defects.

Vaccination protects children and the community from deadly vaccine-preventable diseases like Measles and Rubella, Efeomon added.
