Cape Town's call for action against gender-based violence took a distressing turn on Friday, 21 November when two demonstrators were injured after a car drove through a peaceful gathering in Observatory.

The group had formed part of the nationwide Women4Change shutdown , holding a silent 15-minute sit-in to honour victims of GBV and femicide.

The collision left 70-year-old Maureen Witten bruised and shaken, while 29-year-old Mfuneko Mali suffered a broken wrist.
