KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi says organised crime syndicates have infiltrated the countrys criminal justice system.
Mkhwanazi made the damning allegations during a media briefing in Durban.
He says a senior police officer and a civilian who are allegedly working with a syndicate are allegedly linked to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Mkhwanazi says Mchunu gave an instruction that the task team into political killings in KwaZulu-Natal be disbanded after members of the syndicate were arrested last year. Members of the KwaZulu-Natal task team helped a Gauteng police unit to make the arrests.
Mkhwanazi says he is ready to take these criminals head-on.
