The visitors were forced into a late change before kick-off when Bukayo Saka was ruled out during the warm-up, but Noni Madueke stepped in seamlessly as Arsenal controlled possession early on, probing patiently against a disciplined Leeds defence, and afterwards the Arsenal star admitted that the draw against Nottingham Forest was a disappointing result for the team.
The breakthrough arrived in the 27th minute. Madueke whipped in a superb cross from the right, and Martin Zubimendi timed his run perfectly to head home and finally break Leeds' resistance. Arsenal doubled their lead before the break in unusual fashion, as Madueke's inswinging corner caused chaos and was officially credited as a Karl Darlow own goal.
