The South African Weather Service SAWS has issued a Yellow level 1 warning for disruptive rain in parts of the Western Cape, signalling potential challenges for residents on Friday, Cape town Etc reports.
The severe weather is anticipated to bring a combination of isolated showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, with particular focus on the Overberg, Cape Winelands, Garden Route, and the Prince Albert Municipalities.
According to SAWS, a steep upper weather system located to the west of the province is the driving force behind the rainfall. Forecasts indicate that these areas may receive between 20 mm and 40 mm of rain, with localised spots potentially facing heavier precipitation.
While numerical weather prediction models display some uncertainties, the impending weather has sparked concern among authorities and residents alike, SAWS stated.
SAWS has cautioned that localised flooding could affect susceptible formal and informal settlements, as well as major roads and low-lying zones. The potential for increased motor vehicle accidents also looms large as torrential rain could create hazardous driving conditions.
