The Department of Basic Education DBE says it is determined to use a multi-faceted approach to clean the system of sexual predators .
This after the Education Labour Relations Council found at least 39 teachers countrywide guilty of sexual misconduct perpetrated against learners.
The council says most of the teachers are from KwaZulu-Natal, followed by Gauteng.
The departments spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says they need more than just vetting.
Some people get vetted, once they are in the system, then get involved in criminal activity. So vetting is not a guarantee whatsoever, says Mhlanga.
