The Democratic Alliance DA in the Eastern Cape has voiced strong condemnation of the xenophobic, Islamophobic, and racially charged attacks directed at Yusuf Cassim, following his recent appointment as Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Cape town Etc reports.
The inflammatory remarks targeting the 36-year-old Provincial Chairperson come at a time when South Africa grapples with a history of intolerance and division.
In a statement, DA Eastern Cape Provincial Leader Andrew Whitfield affirmed that while South Africans are entitled to engage in fruitful discussions surrounding political appointments and public performance, any form of commentary that leans into race, religion, ethnicity, or perceived nationality crosses a troubling line.
Those who disagree with his appointment are free to judge him on his track record, his work, and the outcomes he delivers. They are not entitled to strip him of his dignity, Whitfield emphasised.
