The Democratic Alliance DA has urged the Ministry of Police to provide an urgent briefing in Parliament on the stalled rollout of body-worn cameras bodycams in the South African Police Service SAPS.
This follows a growing number of fatal SAPS operations in KwaZulu-Natal, DA MP Mzamo Billy said in a statement on Thursday 8 January.
DA wants briefing on SAPS bodycamsOver the past few days alone, several police operations in the province have resulted in the deaths of suspects, raising serious concerns about transparency, accountability and the absence of independently verifiable evidence during lethal encounters, Billy said.
