The Congress of South African Trade Unions Cosatu has urged South Africans to reject the deadline of 30 June set by March and March for all undocumented migrants to leave the country.
President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier cautioned those participating in protests on Tuesday to ensure their right to protest, does not threaten or intimidate others.
Cosatus General-Secretary Solly Phetoe says, We must defend democracy meaning that we must all of us respect the laws of this country. No one has the right to call for a national shutdown without following the due processes.
The issue around people who are undocumented in SA, we are calling on government to act decisively in terms of making sure that process is being coordinated properly by government and not by individual people who will go to the streets. So, we are rejecting the shutdown. We are rejecting the attacks to the people and migrant workers, adds Phetoe.
