Reported discussions by South Africas Department of Transport DoT and Botswanas Ministry of Transport and Public Works to move the problematic Copperbelt river transit between Groblersbrug and Martins Drift has been criticised as too little too late and unnecessary.
Responding to a report in Independent Online IOL, leading cross-border expert Mike Fitzmaurice said there was really no reason to move the port elsewhere along the Limpopo.
The existing infrastructure is already there and theres a private-sector property stakeholder on Botswanas side of the border that has made land available to deal with an increase in truck volumes, said the chief executive of the Transit Assistance Bureau.
