The Western Cape Education Department has raised concerns following the recent taxi-related shootings. At least six people have been killed in Philippi East, Khayelitsha and Macassar in the past two days.
Provincial Minister David Maynier says the violence has sparked concern among parents and on social media.
He says schools will remain open where possible, but closures are decided on a case-by-case basis with district officials if safety is at risk.
