The proposed increase in the General Fuel Levy GFL by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has set alarm bells ringing amongst consumers and businesses alike, reports Cape town Etc .
The planned hike, set for a 4 June 2025 implementation, suggests a rise of 16 cents per litre for petrol, bringing the GFL to R4.01, and 15 cents for diesel, raising it to R3.85.
This development comes as an unexpected jolt to South Africans who have been hoping for relief at the pump.
The National Vice Chairperson of the South African Petroleum Retailers Association SAPRA, Lebo Ramolahloane has expressed deep concerns regarding the implications of the proposed levy increase.
Should the budget be approved, this will be a blow to South African consumers and businesses, he remarked.
