The Madlanga Commission has heard that businessman Mohammed Mo Sayed repeatedly asked suspended Deputy Crime Intelligence head Major General Feroz Khan to push former National Treasury Chief Procurement Officer Molefe Fani to expedite the procurement of Personal Protective Equipment PPE during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fani, who is referred to as Pilot in WhatsApp messages between Sayed and Khan was later appointed to the South African Police Service SAPS as Divisional Commissioner for Supply Chain Management with the rank of Lieutenant-General.

The exchanges were read into the record by evidence leader Advocate Adila Hassim as part of the commissions investigation into whether Khan acted as a conduit for private, commercial or criminal interests.
