City of Johannesburg Acting Executive Mayor Kenny Kunene is currently leading a team that is cracking down on illegal occupants of abandoned buildings in Randburg.
The operation is part of the citys program aimed at restoring the functionality of the buildings.
Kunene says they are also cracking down on those who are illegally connecting electricity.
We have just found a building here with an illegal connection. They owe the city R5.8 million, with the statement that was pulled out yesterday, which means they might owe the city R15 or R20 million because they have been using electricity illegally, and we are going to the next building.
