The Independent Investigative Directorate IPID is expected to investigate the alleged shooting and killing of a 30-year-old police officer by police in Nababeep in the Northern Cape.

Preliminary information indicates that police officials responded to a dispute in the area.

The deceased allegedly pointed and threatened police officers with a firearm.

The Nababeep police have registered an inquest case following the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old off-duty male police constable stationed at the Springbok police station. Preliminary information indicates that police officials responded to a riotous behaviour complaint in Nababeep where the victim deceased allegedly pointed and threatened the police officials with a firearm, who attended to the complainant and was fatally wounded during the incident. The provincial commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola has expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased member during this difficult period. No arrests have been effected and the investigation will be handed over to IPID for further investigation, SAPS Provincial spokesperson, Sergio Kock, elaborates.
