city of johannesburg vows to evict occupiers in invaded buildings

The City of Johannesburg Housing MMC, Mlungisi Mabaso has vowed to evict people that have invaded buildings that are owned by the City in the CBD.

This after they went to court and obtained an eviction order. Some of the buildings are dilapidated , with an unpleasant stench lingering in the air.

Mabaso says they have put plans in place for alternative accommodation for the occupants.

The mayor gave us an instruction that we need to clean the inner city. And we took a decision that we must prioritize our own properties first, to demonstrate that we are serious about cleaning the inner city. We need to turn the inner city into a construction site, but we are unable to do that because majorities of the properties here in the inner city are occupied.

Mabaso also expressed concern about the unknown businesses that are operating in the citys properties.
