Minister in the Presidency For Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Sindisiwe Chikunga has called on the private sector to collaborate with government in addressing youth unemployment in the country. This day marks the golden jubilee of the the historic 1976 Soweto Uprising when police shot dead young people protesting against the apartheid education system. President Cyril Ramaphosa is leading the National Youth Day commemoration in Soweto on Tuesday morning. Minister Chikunga says there is a lot that government is doing, working together with the private sector because the issue of unemployment can never be seen as a responsibility of government alone.
Of course we established entities such as National Youth Development Agency NYDA whose mandate is to empower and develop young people. Otherwise we are happy. Today, our theme is RESET50 - The Future Calls and we are saying it is the time that we are looking at what should be done today, going forward that will transform South Africas youth in 2076.
