Shoppers in the Western Cape are getting a first look at the future of grocery shopping as Checkers introduces South Africa's first smart trolley, Cape town Etc reports.
Dubbed the Xpress Trolley, the high-tech cart puts customers in full control, from scanning their own groceries to paying directly on the trolley, all without standing in a checkout line.
The innovation is currently being tested at Checkers Hyper Brackenfell and Checkers Constantia, where 20 of the smart carts are in action following a trial run with head office staff earlier this month.
