- The CATCH Trust, which was once known as the Gary Kirsten Foundation, provides cricketing hope in a difficult area of Cape Town.
- It is based in Khayelitsha, where extortion, gang-related murder and all sorts of violence are the order of the day.
- The initiative was founded by former Proteas batter Gary Kirsten, with the project being housed at Chris Hani Secondary School.
In the violence-ridden and gang-infested concrete world that is Khayelitsha, a cricketing rose in the form of the Cricket and Talent Centre of Hope CATCH Trust that is based at the Chris Hani Secondary School is providing a sporting oasis in one of the most difficult places to live in the country.
The CATCH Trust was formerly known as the Gary Kirsten Foundation, which was started by the former Proteas batter who played international cricket between 1993 and 2004 101 Tests and 185 ODIs after his stint with the Proteas.
Kirsten is still part of the project that used to bear his name, but its success lies in how it produces players worthy of provincial trials.
Last year, the Trust sent 37 players to Western Province and Boland trials, with Unathi Magoloza playing for the former's Under-19 Khaya Majola Week team.
