The Nigeria National League NNL has imposed a total fine of ?2 million on Jigawa Golden Stars Football Club following an alleged assault on a match referee by club officials.
The incident occurred on May 3, 2025, at the Kazaure Township Stadium shortly after a league match between Jigawa Golden Stars and Barau FC, a report by the Independent Mirror claims.
According to eyewitness accounts, the center referee was physically attacked by officials of Jigawa Golden Stars after the final whistle, resulting in injuries.
In a statement released on May 8, 2025, the NNL Disciplinary Committee announced the following sanctions:
"?1 million fine for Jigawa Golden Stars for failing to provide adequate security during and after the match, and additional ?1 million fine for the assault on the referee."
