A Cape Town woman has just climbed Table Mountain 64 times in 64 days - not to break records, but to say thank you for being alive.
Tania Morkel, now famously known as 'Table Mountain's Iron Lady', spent more than two months tackling the rugged Platteklip Gorge trail daily to raise funds for the volunteers who once fought to save her life - and she's smashed both her goal and the hearts of everyone following her journey.
In 2023, Tania's life took a terrifying turn when she slipped and fell on the very mountain she now calls her second home . She was left with critical injuries, rescued by Wilderness Search and Rescue WSAR, and airlifted to safety by medics from Western Cape EMS and rangers from SANParks.
This year, she turned her trauma into triumph.
'Every time I took a step back up that trail, it felt like I was rewriting the ending to that day,' Tania said with emotion after completing her final climb on Monday, 13 May.
