Cape Town's streets will soon fill with runners, cheering supporters and early-morning spectators as the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon returns this Sunday, 24 May, but transport officials are hoping many Capetonians will swap steering wheels for train tickets during the busy race weekend.

In a move aimed at easing pressure on some of the city's busiest roads, the Western Cape Mobility Department confirmed that dedicated train services will operate across key rail corridors during marathon weekend, offering commuters an alternative to heavy traffic and road closures expected along the race route.

The additional services, operated through PRASA Western Cape, will run on the Northern, Southern and Cape Flats lines, connecting runners, spectators and event staff travelling to different parts of the city throughout the day.
