The City of Cape Town has committed more than R1,2 billion over the medium term to energy infrastructure and alternative supply as part of its latest budget framework.
The allocation will fund upgrades to the Steenbras pumped storage scheme and support the procurement of additional energy sources as the city moves to reduce reliance on Eskom and strengthen electricity supply security.
According to the city, the investment will be directed towards infrastructure and programmes aimed at improving grid stability and enabling a more diversified energy mix.
