Cape Town International Airport CTIA is set to slash long immigration queues after nearly doubling its border control staff, thanks to a partnership between the Border Management Authority BMA, the Western Cape Government WCG, and the City of Cape Town.
The initiative, launched on Monday, 18 August, adds 48 assistant port control officers to CTIA's immigration team, boosting processing capacity from 66 to 114 officers. The move aims to enhance security, improve visitor experiences, and support tourism growth.
Long immigration delays have been a persistent headache for international travelers landing in Cape Town, often dampening the start of their trips. As the City of Cape Town notes, smoother arrivals mean tourists can start exploring sooner, whether heading to Table Mountain or supporting local businesses in areas like Langa.
