The Kimberley Taxi Association says governments failure to subsidise the taxi industry is leaving commuters exposed to rising transport costs.
This follows a more than 30 fare increase in Kimberley, which has sparked frustration among passengers who say they are already struggling with the high cost of living.
The association treasurer, Lesley Terreblanch says, They must regulate the business, where customers can pay a smaller amount for a longer period. Regulate by the government, regulate the business, make sure that everyone thats is in the business becomes tax compliant. They must not rush to penalise the taxi owners and drivers and stuff.
