building owners urged to step up epc compliance drive

Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy Samantha Graham-Mar has called on large building owners and energy stakeholders to assist with the recruitment and placement of energy performance certificate EPC practitioners under the South African National Energy Development Institute SANEDI EPC skills development programme.

The initiative, which supports the implementation of South Africas EPC regulations for buildings, aims to equip unemployed graduates NQF Level 6 and above in engineering, energy studies or sciences with practical skills in data collection, processing and analysis for building energy performance certification. Participants are hosted within the entities that recruit them, helping these organisations meet regulatory obligations while contributing to national skills development, the department says.

According to Graham-Mar, the programme enhances energy efficiency compliance and employment opportunities in the sector. This programme also provides businesses with access to a resource to help further reduce their carbon footprint.
