brown mogotsi denies getting privileged saps information from senzo mchunu

Businessman Brown Mogotsi says Police Minister Senzo Mchunu does not share privileged South African Police Service SAPS information with him.

At a media briefing last weekend, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi alleged that Mogotsi was Mchunus associate.

He also revealed alleged WhatsApp chats between Mogotsi and another controversial businessman, the corruption-accused Vusimuzi Cat Matlala, who scored a R360 million SAPS tender in 2024 that has since been cancelled.

The alleged chats included references to Mchunus disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team in December 2024 and the subsequent transfer of 121 case dockets from the Task Team.

Mkhwanazi claimed this transfer was directed by the Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya, acting on the instruction of the Minister of Police to disband the Task Team.

He further revealed alleged messages from Mogotsi to Mchunu and suggested that there was a conspiracy targeting some senior officers involving the Minister of Police.

In an interview with SABC News on Friday 11 July, Mogotsi said he has experience of underground operations which he would share at the right time and at the proper platform.

The information that Im giving you, if questioned at the right platform, I would be able to allude to how I end up having this information, he said.

It does not come from Minister Mchunu, Lieutenant-General Sibiya or SAPS Counter and Security Intelligence head Major-General Feroz Khan or anyone of those generals Mkhwanazi has mentioned.

Asked if he had access to privileged police information, Mogotsi said, Its not that I have access. In this environment, information comes to you. The proper platform will give me an opportunity to say where does this come from.
