Controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi has claimed there was a suspicion that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and King Misuzulu kaZwelithini had been recruited by the United States Central Intelligence Agency CIA as agents.
Mogotsi was testifying on Tuesday 18 November at the commission of inquiry into alleged criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system. It is chaired by retired Constitutional Court justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga .
He claimed he was appointed as a contact agent for the Crime Intelligence division in the South African Police Service SAPS in 2009. Prior to that, he had served as an informant since 1999, he claimed, adding that he was paid for both roles.
