A rescue mission was underway to free two construction workers trapped after a trench collapsed on Friday at a repair site on the East Pier at the V A Waterfront in Cape Town, reports Cape town Etc .
The incident occurred during an infrastructure repair project and emergency teams moved on to the scene within minutes, officials said News24 .
We have had a trench collapse on an infrastructure repairs project. Two workers were trapped but saved by the protection shoring that is part of the trench they were working in. Both workers have been retrieved and are receiving medical attention. City Fire and Rescue were on site and carrying out the retrieval said Donald Kau - Head of communications for V A Waterfront in a statement.
